Charity Support Consideration

Chronic illness communities are reaching unprecedented numbers. From the #millionsmissing campaign that aims to give visibility to the invisible, to advocacies that aim to project the voices of those who have become reduced to sitting behind a screen for their daily dose of connection, the fact remains that mystery illnesses have become a hidden pandemic. A subject so close to my heart, life and lifestyle, I know firsthand just how painfully isolating and devastating the toll long-term sickness can have on a person, a family, and as such it remains so vital to remember the unremembered. Broken systems push broken rules and chronic illness communities pay the price of not being enough to belong enough.

What we need is awareness, support and education of the misunderstood, rare and unsuspecting illnesses that plague such a HUGE percentage of our population. A collective union is one that sees the struggle and pays it forward.

Please consider visiting the sites/organisations below to either learn more about these common yet misunderstood illnesses and to also donate if you're able to. It's most likely that - if not us - we all know someone who is going through something like this - are a friend to them, a colleague, a family member, a carer or an acquaintance - and you will be doing people everywhere a huge favour just by showing your support, and showing your understanding, because you're saying 'I'm willing to understand your plight even if i'm not living it with you'.

You'll be funding and helping people who need it, the support that is necessary and the vital, viable research that means we have something to look forward to. Help sufferers start fighting again, help them have a better quality of life, and help them maintain hope in the face of hopelessness.

Let's have compassion, lets have understanding, let's improve the current way of living and providing for people who need a bit more help. We have a valuable perspective, valuable lives. We're human so help us to piece ourselves back into humanity or join us in our cause to make our societies more adaptable.

If you happen upon this page and are managing a long-term illness, or are trying to find an ear supportive enough to listen, please don't hesitate to get in touch using either contact forms on this blog.

Migraine is the most common neurological disorder in the UK affecting 1 in 7 people. It is one of the most disabling lifetime conditions and causes 190,000 attacks every day. Yet migraine is one of the most misunderstood and underfunded medical conditions in modern medicine.

Sadly migraine is often trivialised – it does not attract the sympathy or attributed seriousness as comparable conditions. Many individuals struggle for years to manage their migraine and the enormous burden it can have on work, family and social lives.
The Migraine Trust is working to change this....

The Migraine Trust charity was founded in 1965 to improve the lives of people with migraine through research and education. This remains our focus now, 50 years later. We are committed to reducing the burden of migraine – on individuals, their families, schools and employers, the health system, the economy and society as a whole. Research is at the heart of our work. We fund and encourage the highest quality of medical research into the causes and treatments for migraine.

At the ME Association, we believe it is high time the world at large realises that this disease can affect anyone – any age, any ethnicity – and can occur at any time of life.
People with M.E. are demonstrating they possess the confidence to be seen and are raising more awareness than ever before! It’s not too late: Join the Real M.E. campaign.

The ME Association supports people with ME/CFS through all stages of their illness:

– ME/CFS is hard to accept. And those who do not accept their illness rarely recover. So we help people understand and come to terms with their illness.

– ME/CFS is hard to diagnose. We help people get the diagnosis and medical help they need by providing accurate information and working to improve medical understanding and education.

– ME/CFS wrecks lives. We help people struggling to cope practically, emotionally and financially. We work to shield them from remedies that offer false hope.

– ME/CFS is invisible. We help people explain their illness to disbelieving relatives, colleagues and friends.

– ME/CFS silences! We campaign and speak out for those who can’t defend themselves

We strive to give people hope:

– Hope that through sustained campaigning, there will, one day, be a recognised diagnostic test for their illness. ME/CFS is difficult to diagnose. There is no set test for ME/CFS – it is diagnosed by elimination, by ruling out everything else that it could be. But the quicker it is recognised, diagnosed and treated, the more likely the sufferer is to recover. We aim to work closely with the medical profession and with government to promote swifter diagnosis and treatment of the illness.

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.) is a long-term (chronic), fluctuating, neurological condition that causes symptoms affecting many body systems, more commonly the nervous and immune systems. M.E. affects an estimated 250,000 people in the UK, and around 17 million people worldwide.

People with M.E. experience debilitating pain, fatigue and a range of other symptoms associated with post-exertional malaise, the body and brain’s inability to recover after expending even small amounts of energy.

Action for M.E. takes action to end the ignorance, injustice and neglect faced by people with M.E. We do this by meeting need now to improve the lives of people with M.E. while taking action to secure change for the future.

Alongside providing targeted information, support and advice to children, young people and adults with M.E., we offer peer-support services that reduce the isolation that so often comes with M.E.

We won't give up until
everyone experiencing a mental health problem
gets support and respect.

Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem. But hundreds of thousands of people are still struggling.
We believe no-one should have to face a mental health problem alone. We’ll listen, give you support and advice, and fight your corner.

Local Minds
  • Our local Minds provide help and support directly to those who need it most. There's a network of around 130 local Minds across England and Wales that offer specialised support and care based on the needs of the communities they support.

Campaigning for change
  • We believe everyone with a mental health problem should be able to access excellent care and services. We also believe you should be treated fairly, positively and with respect.
  • We campaign on a range of issues that could affect anybody with a mental health problem. This includes health services; legislation; protection of legal rights, and employment. Join us to campaign for change.

Vaishali @V.L. Book Reviews

A vehement reader. A passionate reviewer.

A fellow book reader and book lover who would much rather prance around in the realm of mystical, seductive fantasy than be cloistered by matters of the mind. I enjoy the ungoverned, zealous writings of fiction, romance and fantasy alongside the stormy turbulence of dark tales. Books are an essential part of my life and being able to share my experience with you will fill me with nothing less than gratitude.
