At the time, it was this action-packed, coming-of-age fantasy with magic and monsters that made me reminisce through the nuanced index of YA adventure. And refreshed a few of my own reasons why I once loved this fantastical playground to begin with. It's so diverse, so fresh. So very adolescent in only the best way. Let's be honest, It was a genre that so many of us flocked to during our early reading years. I may have left my teenage years where they left me, but I haven't left this genre there to sit in the dust (even if i don't read as much of it anymore). Chow's heroine in Odriel's Heirs has a vivid set of inner conflicts to brave as the Dragon Heir, even as she struggles to withstand and square up to the darkness swallowing Okarria. If you loved this first-in-series, you might be excited to behold what the author establishes in the second coming, Idriel's Children! Set further into the future, with a new staple of characters (including some of our now-older originals) and another leading protagonist with just as much to reckon with and resist against, this new and tense journey awaits a second generation. Of course, I'm sure this installment would be incomplete without a band of fiends and the supernatural undead to give Hayley's newest heroine, Aza, a run for her money. To tease you into this sequel, I'm happy to bring you a bookish interview with Hayley herself as she talks a bit about the newest addition to her series and answers some fun questions in between! Keep reading to see what she had to say about Idriel's Children, this standalone continuation... Vaishali (V.L. Book Reviews): Hello Hayley! I'm excited to talk about yourself and your book!
