Photo Credits: ready made (pexels) Edited by Vaishali As part of my slow-burning blog mission to secure interviews with the authorship of one of my favourite genres, I have a very exciting interview project to share. If anything like myself, romance readers please do rally yourselves because this one's a wish list tick. In mind for a long time, in engagement just late of 2022 and finally here with the spoils I've been quietly buzzing over, I'm beyond delighted that I get to share my author interview with none other than romance writer Kelly Siskind! Kelly Siskind of the One Wild Wish series, Kelly Siskind of the Showmen series or Kelly Siskind of her latest Bower Boys series, she's all the same person with a lot of romanticist joy to proposition. This dazzling writer has jumped from penning uncommitted heroes compelled by nights unforgotten to starving artist creatives to sweet and sultry second chances all through a growing backlog stocked with something for everyone, and her latest series follows by example by going small-town strong. Just recently finished with the initial instalment in her Showmen series, featuring an optimistic heroine and a showman hero down on his luck, I was utterly compelled by the setting, the space, the energy, the heart and hope, the magic, and most importantly, the romance of New Orleans Rush. And as this book swiftly launched itself into my list of favourites, elevated became the priority to join in discussion with this blossoming writer of romance. With a handy penmanship for contemporaries, an Amazon bestseller and recognised for her creative and original Showmen series she's here, she's marvellous and ready to share some answers to some very important questions. An authority in this beloved genre with a lot to give in creativity and irresistible romance, I leave you with an author whose stories should absolutely take up space in your reading libraries. We talk book, writing, romance and inspiration! Vaishali (V.L. Book Reviews): Hello Kelly! I'm so very beyond my imaginings that we're here, doing this, through the magic of cyberspace. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and why you decided to take that big heroine leap and write romance? Why did you make a side mission out of being one of many dazzling writers of romance to populate the writership of this genre?
Vaishali: You've got four (growing) series' and a standalone out in the world already. What does that feel like? Are you still pinching yourself, ready to call it quits with a beautiful backlog to show for it, already buzzing with ideas for more?
Vaishali: For me, it was later in life that I became a romance reader. I was far from a typical wonderchild bookworm. Besides school reading material I was more film enthusiast than book enthusiast. But at what age did you become lovestruck with the genre you write in?
Vaishali: What kind of things does Kelly Siskind fantasise/daydream about when she's not writing? Or does her fiction-made mind fantasise/daydream most when she's supposed to be writing?
Vaishali: We all have our favourites and non-favourites. Some make true worshippers out of us. Some bring out the naysayers in us, causing us to draw a spirit circle of 'wide berth' around our person so we never have to indulge again. I speak of tropes and cliches. How do you feel about them in the romance genre? Do you have any favourites? Preferences for reading and writing?
Vaishali: If you could give name to some feelings and sensations your characters bring out the most in you, what would they be? (All feelings and sensibilities are allowed)
Vaishali: Romance reads bring so much joy into my life so I have to ask you a interview question must: share some of your epic favourite romance novel and film preferences?
Vaishali: A life question: the balance of running your own cheese-selling establishment sounds like an interesting mix with the authorship hustle. What's that like?
Vaishali: We get onto the topic of character profiles and romantic relationships. I have many questions but we'll settle here: how does writing a relationship pairing go for you? I can imagine each time is different. Do you establish the personality and arc pathway of one MC and decide what they'd need in a potential partner? Do you write up two individuals and let the courtship find its feet? The floor is yours…
Vaishali: What's your preferred hero style and what's your preferred heroine style (in terms of nature/make-up, general vibe and way of being). Do you have one? What type of ‘type’ brings out the fangirl in you?
Vaishali: Romance writers confide that the writing/creating of a book isn't always the easiest thing to accomplish, and arguably, the frustration is part of the process in working through it. In fact, many digress that they have their ever-changing weaknesses with certain areas of plotting, faking and fabricating love bonds. And it changes with every book. Do you have any particular brick walls that you hit?
Vaishali: What makes reading romance novels so worth the escapism for you: what do you love about fictional courtships?
Vaishali: I won't ask you to play favourites with your books or your leading characters, but which ones did you have the most rewarding experiences with (both books and characters)?
Vaishali: I'm excited to says that it's already waiting patiently on my kindle app, pre-ordered as soon as I caught whiff of what was to be the first book in the Bower Boys series. But how are you feeling about the reception for Fifty Ways to Win Back Your Lover; how is reader feedback digesting?
Vaishali: Would you rather sell 10,000 copies of your latest release or give your newest heroine the HEA she deserves? A sneaky addendum to this question: would you ever consider writing a romance without a HEA?
Vaishali: If someone decided that you should be dropped into a romance novel and the role of leading lady was thrust into your arms, what would some of your signature heroine traits be? An addendum to this question: which romance author would you trust to write your HEA if you were their heroine?
Vaishali: Consider all of your heroines in the running for this question (you can pick the same heroine more than once). Which of your heroines would you likely make a lifelong friend out of, which would you take on a girl’s getaway, which would you trust to go into business with, which would you trust with some deep and dark secrets, which would you call on if you were in the midst of a breakdown, which would have your back if you had a mysterious body on your hand you needed to dispose of and which would you stage a friendly intervention for?
Vaishali: Consider all of your heroes in the running for this question (you can select the same hero more than once); which of your heroes would you friend zone, which would likely have a past of being in a boy band, which would you face pie just because you could (you're allowed to have your reasons), which would you kick out of a group chat, which would be your male bestie, which would you trust to take care of you and hold your hair in a dire moment of embarrassing inebriation and which would you enjoy playing scary pranks on?
Vaishali: Of course, we're all romance enthusiasts here, but just between us, do you have any other favourite genre choices (to read/write in)?
Vaishali: What can readers look forward to with 10 Signs You Need to Grovel, second in the Bower Boys series?
