Title: The Iron Crown Author: L.L. MacRae Genre/Themes: Epic Fantasy, Action & Adventure, Publication Date: 28th May 2021 Publisher: Self-published A Self-Published Blog-Off Finalist (SPFBO), L.L. MacRae's The Iron Crown has been making waves and breathing scorch marks into the TBR's of fantasy lovers everywhere. I had the pleasure of receiving an ARC copy of this epic fantasy that opens up an expansive lay of the land; an invading darkness, a group of travelling companions, a collective of lost souls carted off to an unknown fate, and divine and diversified magical dragon spirits that guard the elemental earth of Tassar. The Iron Crown comes packed with layers of traditional adventure, and as the first instalment in what looks to be a longer series, there's plenty to be curious about! While keen fantasy enthusiasts are hopefully using this precious time to file this into those 'to-reads' lists, I'm happy to use my time to announce that I had the honest pleasure of talking to the author about this very book in question. And on that note, I leave you with our interview! Interview Vaishali (V.L. Book Reviews): Hi Lauren, tell us a bit about yourself and the first book in the Dragon Spirits series, The Iron Crown...
V: One of the most interesting features of the The Iron Crown are the dragon spirits themselves. When and why did you decide to bequeath such a grand role to the fiery mythical creature?
V: Some readers enjoy a busty narrative, some enjoy building bonds with the fictional people they read about, and some can't channel the escapist pleasure without writing that rivets. What builds a bond between you and a story and was it an aim for your fantasy novel to do the same?
V: Which character relationship did you enjoy writing about most in The Iron Crown?
V: Which of your own characters do you find the most relatable. If not relatable, which of your your characters do you feel the most invested in?
V: They say it takes a village to rear and publish a book. Who has been most helpful in being a guiding, championing hand through your self-publishing journey?Lauren: My editor, Olivia, has absolutely been most helpful. V: Describe the circumstances/setting that enable you to do your best writing and be your best writing self...
V: A film adaptation you watched before reading the book?
V: If writing about dragons was a culturally prohibited offense, what would you write about?
V: Why do you think written stories speak to so many people, authors and readers alike?
V: The self publishing community has a very entrepreneurial spirit. A few things you've learned from being and remaining Indie?
V: One of the best pieces of feedback you've ever gotten about your writing?
V; An underrated fantasy novel that you'd happily wax lyrical over?
V: If you had the chance to spend a week in Tassar (your own created world), would you take it? Lauren: Yes! V: An addendum to the previous question: if your answer is yes, who do you think you'd like/dislike, ally with, befriend (possibly maraud with) or make an enemy out of?
V: This last question is a free space for you to express whatever you wish about your book, its themes, its characters, its representation or to share your hopes and dreams for this developing new series…
