You can find my UPDATED review of 'A Court of Mist and Fury ' here! - 100 S T A R S to A Court of Mist and Fury (Re-read) 2) My Beautiful Neighbour by Piper Rayne - Rating ★ ★ ★ 3
Piper Rayne build a wonderful quaint town in this family/community-centred romance. All the small town textures brand the setting. From overbearing family members who haven't mastered the art of minding their own business to a community of secretive and spirited senior retirees who may or may not enjoy a racy pastime and a collective of Greene's who are a small community within a small town community, the authors have created quite the open scene in Sunrise Bay. Content Warning: Swearing, some smutty scenes and a past parental death. An in-the-classroom rom-com spin on the famously observed Pride and Prejudice, appropriated for the contemporary romance readership. No deeply ingrained similarities but a lot of pride and a lot of prejudice, a bow to the original tale, open-door smut scenes, an enemies with benefits teacher/teacher romp with a teaching crew, a cardigan-clad hero, a of course a hero and heroine fit to echo the disputed bad blood. Content Warning: Profanity. Mentions self harm (slitted wrists). Alcoholism. Abandonment. Sex scenes and smut throughout. A Savannah man in a suit and tie who lives in a lush house off-limits to all but a sensible alpha male-averse attorney. Restraint is what happens when it’s hard to let go of what happened to you. It’s also what happens when a career is built upon the premise that to be successful is to be unattached. Two grossly independent, self-standing people learn that love can be more than a practical impossibility in this small-town romance. Content Warning: Mentions the past death of two parents, grief, thoughts of suicide/self harm. Bedroom scenes. Profanity You can find my full review of 'Restraint here! - 3 S T A R S to Restraint 5) Kiss Me by Liz Lincoln - Rating ★ ★ ★ 3.5
Pizza is this edible matchmaker that brings them together but it’s a (completely pizza-unrelated) pull that keeps them coming back for more. Weighted looks, lingering touches and a flood of heat is what takes this romance hostage when a chance to enjoy what literally greets one at their own doorstep propositions more than just a promise of a man endowed with a tasty snack. Content Warning: Mentions drinking, smoking, drugs, addiction. Mentions suicide. Mentions sexual assault. Briefly describes a prior car accident with casualties. Mentions self medicating, a past overdose and multiple bedroom scenes. Everything light, breezy, comical and rom-com-esque about this I enjoyed without having to try to. PG-appropriate it may be but Neighbours Like That comes with a light-hearted rom com calling card. With a fun plot, barmy cousins and an energising back and forth in the form of a neighbour feud, it was carefree and enjoyable for the most part. Content Warning: Mentions a past controlling relationship. An on-page stalker storyline and an ensuing kidnapping. As a clean read there are no bedroom scenes. I was floored with the perspective-shifting revelation that Reclaimed Love is (in every traditional sense) a debut novel. I wasn't aware of this precious fact until I finished the book entirely. Wow. A first for me and an apparent first for the author, it's like this story already knew itself without hesitation, found itself as if it belonged and resolved itself without apologies. It adjectivises itself with a series subtitle that fits like a dream because to call this book heartfelt is to say the sea is fit for swimming. Content Warning: Swearing. Mentions past/present bullying including fat shaming/body shaming and belittling. Past violence, alcohol consumption. Panic attacks.
